Alexa and Kelsey are both certified professional dog trainers with over 10 years of experience between them. The About Us page can give you a wonderful view into who our trainers are and how they received their certifications.
Walks of Life is insured and bonded through the Business Insurers of the Carolinas, who work closely with the Association of Professional Dog Trainers. This insurance company is well versed in the special needs associated with dog training.
Alexa and Kelsey run a positive reinforcement based training company but Kelsey is equipped and educated on the use of balanced training methods as well. Kelsey and Alexa use treats, toys and praise to encourage their dogs and keep their sessions fun and exciting!
Walks of Life does not discriminate against any breed but does know the individual needs of each breed. Alexa and Kelsey are knowledgable of these needs and will adjust lesson plans to ensure your dogs psychological and physiological needs are met!
In 2016, Alexa became a Licensed Family Paws Parent Educator. This is an internationally recognized program in which Alexa is 1 of only 2 trainers in Houston to have earned this license.
Alexa and Kelsey ALWAYS encourage their clients to contact them with any questions throughout the week as you work with your dog. At Walks of Life, our goal is to get your dog where you want them in training as quickly and effectively as possible. This requires open communication and a great relationship between owner and trainer.
Alexa and Kelsey are both evaluators through the AKC and are able to train and test your dog on the S.T.A.R. Puppy, Canine Good Citizen, Community Canine, Urban Canine Good Citizen, and Trick Dog titles.
Alexa and Kelsey are predominately positive reinforcement based trainers. Their most frequently used tools include clickers, treats, and front clipping harnesses.

A professional trainer should not guarantee results when working with your dog. There are many variables involved that can not be controlled by your trainer. Alexa and Kelsey will work very closely with you to create a plan that will most effectively help you achieve your goals.
A good trainer will begin by assessing your dog's reactions and determining the underlying problems. Is it over arousal? Fear? Aggression? If it is fear or aggression, we would recommend desensitizing or counter-conditioning. The best way to help your dog address their feelings is to change your dogs response to the stimuli that has caused them distress. If you are interested in learning more about the skills, tools, and desensitization necessary to put you back in control, see our Reactivity Program.
